Solange's "A Seat at the Table" Inspirations & 1-Year Anniversary
Today marks a year since the release of Solange's third studio album, A Seat at the Table. A year ago, this album was a complete surprise to fans. But a great one at that, as the album touched on current and some sensitive topics such as empowerment, social issues, independence and more. The 21-track album (filled with 12 songs and 9 interludes, to be exact) served to disrupt the ease with which oppression and injustice invade the lives of Black people on a daily basis, whether it was racially, socially and more. The album highlighted Solange as a mother, an artist, a woman and Black.
With so many conversations to be had, filling the air, due to this album, A Seat at the Table rose to the number 1 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart, making it one of Solange's most successful and best-selling albums. What made it so successful? We may never be able to quite place our finger on it. But celebrate with us by checking out the collection of tracks that inspired the album's writing process for A Seat at the Table. It may spill a secret or two.
