Beauty, Fashion, Music, Culture: Let's Talk Rihanna & Her Impact
Boy, oh Boy. Where do I start? Robyn Rihanna Fenty. An artist. An Innovator. An Icon. The Bajan beauty from the left side of an island.
Rihanna has been the topic of discussion since she's began her career almost 13 years ago. Her name, a taboo subject. Yet despite this, Rihanna has proven to have a core work ethic releasing an album every year of her career up until her most anticipated Anti album, which took about 4 years to complete. Good Girl Gone Bad allowed her to ease into her true self and wipe clean her "innocent" image as she truly came into her own as a woman in the entertainment world. With her unique and sultry voice, Rihanna made a name for herself in the hip hop industry and gained herself a fan base almost instantly as people were intrigued by this beautiful carribean princess signed to Def Jam.
As much as we love her (now), Rih Rih hasn't always been everyone's cup of tea. Some people loved her voice, others hated it and denied her talent, but despite the critics that Rihanna reign just won't let up. Her world tours, concerts and shows kept on comin'.
Having made her mark in music, the bad gal has dipped and dabbled in other endeavors, one being fashion. I mean what is the fashion world without Rih? She is known to take bold and daring risks with her style and has set trends left and right. Have you ever had a "this is so ugly, but not on Rihanna" moment? I admit, I have! With her spunky, chic and ever-changing style there is no doubt that she would snag major opportunities to collaborate with the top dogs in fashion. Rihanna has collaborated with Armani, River Island, Dior, Manolo Blahnik, Puma, Stance, Chopard, etc., and has brought her unique vision to every one of these brands.
She's also launched her very own cosmetic line, Fenty Beauty with foundations that come in 40 shades, highlighters, contour sticks, lip gloss and more - a beauty line that she's been working on for the past two years. What more can we expect from her?
Rihanna has undoubtedbly remained true to who she is, while building her successful empire and that in itself portrays a role-model in its rawest form. Keeping the same group of friends from back home and rarely missing a Crop-Over (carnival festival in Barbados) she is the definition of a true feministic badass, and we should all get in line for what surprises she has next!
